Job description
MSCR – Google Scripts Javascript Developer
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
During the school year, MSCR offers Afterschool and Enrichment Programs at 15 MMSD Schools. Many of these sites have been awarded Community Learning Center (CLC) grants through the Federal Government. These programs offer curriculum to help support the students who need extra support in math and/or literacy.
Program Description
Coding with an impact! Be part of a small team responsible for making sure all of our part time staff get paid on time, every time. Improve and maintain the Google Workspace that tracks all of our part time staff, their hiring status, hours, supervisors’ approvals of their hours, and creates the exports for our payroll system. You use code to make our organization better and more efficient.
MSCR uses Google Scripts and Google Workspace, but is not affiliated with Google.
Job Description & Duties
People skills required
You are responsible not only for the code but for interactions with users and administrators. You will need to understand and present the capabilities of the software. You will be expected to listen to end users with empathy and patience and present solutions to them in layman’s terms, then turn around, code it, test it, and deliver it by the agreed-upon deadline.
Primary responsibilities include
Troubleshooting issues and errors with the employee database and timekeeping system.
Developing new functionality to improve system performance.
Additional projects in other areas as needed.
Start Date: 9/3/2024
Work Location: Remote/MSCR Central
Hours/week: 5-10 hours per week.
Work hours: Varies

Payrate: 30.00 – 30.00 /hour
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with a high-level programming language such as Python, Java, etc.
- Exemplary history of problem solving in unique situations.
- Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills.
- Calm under pressure.
- Willingness and ability to travel locally, on occasion, to Madison, WI.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Javascript.
Experience working with Google Scripts.

What we offer Work from home and set your own schedule. Occasional in-person meetings at our Lakeside Street office will be required. Hours will vary depending on need, averaging 10-15 hours/week with a cap of 18.5 hours/week. This position is ideal for a newer developer looking to gain experience or an experienced developer looking for a steady side-gig utilizing their technical skills.
